Quiet Social Club

The Happy Place Meditation is a powerful technique to bring calm and peace into any situation.

Using the VAKOG sensory technique (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Olfactory, Gustatory), this meditation will guide you through the process of establishing your happy place in a way that you can return to it any time you need.

We recommend doing this meditation for the first time when you feel rested and relaxed. This will allow you to go deeper into the visualisation of your happy place and intensify the experience, making later happy place meditations easier. But don't worry! This meditation will still be valuable if you are meditating in between work calls. :)

Hello and welcome to today’s happy place meditation.  In this meditation, we will do something very powerful together, we will create a happy place that you can come to any time you feel a little out of balance, a little stressed or anxious.

And we will establish this happy place today so that you can use this as a source of calm whenever you need.

Sit down in a comfortable position, and rest your arms into your lap or to your sides. Gently close your eyes and take a deep breath.

This is your time, and a time for you to relax completely, a time to come back to your centre.

For a few moments just observe your breath as it enters your nose, follow it travel through your body, into your cells, replenishing yourself with valuable oxygen and now, taking all the things that your body doesn’t need anymore, travelling back out of your mouth.

Take a moment to notice how your body feels in this moment…allowing any feelings to come and pass away again…whatever you may be feeling right now, just experience it fully, even when they don’t feel entirely pleasant, watch these sensations as they come and pass again…

Breathing in, and breathing out….

If your mind starts wandering, just gently guide it back into this moment…

Breathing in and breathing out….

Now, imagine a place that makes you feel entirely at peace, that makes you feel really happy…it could be an imaginary place, or a place that you have already been to…

What does this place look like? Is your happy place in nature? Or in the city? Is it by the water, or are you surrounded by trees? What does the sky look like? Is it a rainy sky or a blue sky? Are there animals around you? Are you alone or are there people around you? Imagine your place in much detail as possible. Imagine that you wanted to describe this place to a friend or family member, what would you tell them? How could they also imagine your happy place?

Now focus your attention on what you can hear. Is it a quiet place? Or do you hear sounds of nature? Do you perhaps hear the sound of a little river, or the leaves of a tree brushing against each other? Are you alone or do you hear the voices of other people?

Take all these sensations in…

Now focus your attention on what you can smell. Can you smell flowers or perhaps freshly cut grass? Or the smell of your favourite dish? Perhaps you notice the smell of the ground after rain fell?

Enjoy these smells for a moment.

Now focus your attention on what you can taste. Perhaps you still have the taste from some food in your mouth, or perhaps you just had your favourite drink. If you don’t taste anything that is also completely fine.

Now let's take a moment to really go into the feeling that your happy place gives you. Take a moment to take a sensory photograph of your happy place, all the things that you can smell, see, hear…how do you feel in this moment?

Stay like this for a few moments..Enjoy your happy place and know that you can come back here any time you need…this is your place!
